The Many Gateways to the Harry Potter Books

I fell in love with this series at book 4 – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and reading it made me adore the first books, as well. I’m an English teacher, of the Harry Potter Generation, and I love these books! If you like children’s/Young Adult, or fantasy books, I’m confident you will love them too! Here are a few ways to get into them:

  1. Watch all 8 movies in a row, if not straight through then 7-8 days in a row (one a night)
  2. Watch spoiler-free reviews on Booktube ( on any one of the books
  3. Read just the sorting hat song in books 1 (117), 4 (176) , and 5 (204) ! (pages)
  4. Search up Harry Potter quotes under Google images (quotes, not memes)
  5. Take the sorting hat quiz on to see which house you belong in
  6. Take the personality quiz and figure out which MBTI personality you are HP-style, and which character – (TEST:; CHARTπŸ™‚
  7. Read just the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
  8. Search up some Harry Potter fan art on Google
  9. Come visit Honeydukes at Hogsmeade in Orlando’s Universal Studios and enjoy some delicious and sweet candy
  10. Read the short Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them – a companion novel or any HP companion book. There’s also one about Quidditch and wizard tales (eg like human fairy tales)
  11. Buddy read with a friend
  12. Participate in Harry Xmas To You this December (done by booktuber MaureenKeavy)

So! This is not an exhaustive list but some of these things helped me get into and finish these books. You can see a graphic of these “gateways” on my Tumblr here. One of the best reading decisions I’ve made was to finish this series! Feel free to add anything I left out below. HP Fans know, once you start you won’t be able to quit til the last page of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows πŸ™‚

As you can tell, I love the Harry Potter Series and I know you will love it too! A fan gave her friend the first book (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) in elementary school to read the first chapter – she read all 17 chapters and all 6 books after that on her own accord. Try these ways to get your feet wet! Who knows, you might enjoy the books and end up reading them all in two weeks…or less! And if you love them, they will be in your heart forever =)

My tumblr wont let me upload, so here ya go πŸ™‚
